Where is Fun in Balkan?

We understand that the definition of the Balkans may vary depending on who you’re talking to.

The term “Balkans” normally refers to the region located in the Balkan Peninsula, including the majority of the areas of the ex-Yugoslavian countries (excluding a small part of Croatia and Slovenia), Albania, Romania, Greece, and a small part of Turkey.

Since the region is interconnected geographically, historically, and even politically, Fun in the Balkans’ mission is to cover everything you need to know about all the relevant countries in the region, which include:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Greece
  • Kosovo
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Slovenia
  • Turkiye

On this website, you can expect Fun in the Balkans to cover this beautiful region in the southeastern part of Europe, whether we talk about them separately for each country or the region as an entity.

Behind Fun in Balkan

Marya at St. Sava Church, Serbia.

My name is Marya, and I have to admit that my first obsession with the Balkan region started back in 1998.

I was only 9 then as I watched the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France when the Croatian National Team came as an underdog and ended up getting third place in their first tournament.

The real MVP was Davor Suker as the top scorer, but I started supporting the Croatian National Team for one silly reason: their jersey!

But my obsession didn’t stop there, because it was also the reason why I started digging into the country and its history. It’s almost impossible to understand Croatian history without knowing about Yugoslavia, and that’s when my passion for Balkan region was growing.

I got the idea to start Fun in Balkan not too long after my first trip to Balkan, and I want to inspire others by sharing some useful tips to explore the region.

From popular digital nomad destinations like Bansko in Bulgaria or Zagreb in Croatia to off-the-beaten-path spa towns like Banja Koviljaca or Vrnjacka Banja in Serbia, let’s have fun in Balkan!
